D1Arrival in Kathmandu

You will be welcomed at Kathmandu airport and will then transfer to your hotel in Thamel, where you will check and meet with your tour leader in the evening.

After breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up and give you a guided tour of Kathmandu city. The tour includes several medieval and spiritual sites which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will visit the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Hindu god temple of Pashupati Nath and cremation place of Hindus which is on the bank of the Holy River Bagmati, the famous Hindu and Buddhist shrine ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and one of the biggest stupa in Asia, BouddhaNath.

After the tour, you will meet your trekking guide who will provide you with the equipment you need such as duffle bag, sleeping bag, down jacket etc. (let us know beforehand what you wish to borrow).

D3Kathmandu to Lukla by plane and trek to Phakding

Early morning, our trekking guide will pick you up and take you to Kathmandu airport. You will then enjoy a 30 minutes flight to Lukla airport. The flight gives breath-taking view of the mountain ranges.

Upon arrival, you will meet your porters and start walking. You will follow a flat path to the entrance gate where you find a statue of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepali lady who climbed Mt Everest. You will continue downhill to Chaurikharka, a beautiful Sherpa settlement village and all the way to Phakding via Chheplung, Thade Kholi and Ghat village where you will find nicely build and carved walls and stupas.

D4Trek to Namche Bazaar

Today, you will walk upwards along Dudh Koshi river which you will cross 5 times over suspension bridges. You will pass by several local villages. Nearby Banker village, you will be able to spot a first mountain: Thamserku (6608m). Just after Manjo village, you will stop at the office of Sagarmatha National Park where we will purchase the permits.

Once you reach Jorselle (2800m), you will have lunch. Afterwards, you will climb the final ~3 hours of the day to reach Namche bazaar. Along the way, you may lucky to see Mount Everest (8848m), Mt Lhotse (8516m) and Nuptse (7980m) if the sky  is clear. Namche Bazaar is very famous place in the region. You will be surprised to see a supermarket, bakeries, bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, trekking equipment shops and well build hotels in this small town. Every Saturday is market day here, people come with their Yaks to buy essentials.

D5Acclimatisation day in Namche bazaar

Acclimatisation is very important while walking in high altitude. Stops are essential for our body to adjust to the thinning air and lower temperatures. Today you will walk for 4 to 5 hours at similar altitude in order to adjust.

After breakfast, you will first walk to the Headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park used by the Nepali Army. This is one of the best view points from where to observe Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and many more peaks. There, you will visit a museum about Sherpa culture and traditions, Everest expeditions and the flora and fauna of Sagarmatha National Park. Then the hike continues to reach Everest view hotel via Shyangboche and Khumjung village. If you are interested, you may visit Khumjung Gompa to see a Yeti Skull as well as stop by Sir Edmund Hillary School on the way back to Namche Bazaar.

D6Trek to Tengboche


Once you leave the guest house, the trail goes uphill for 10 minutes then mostly flat all the way to Kanjuma and downhill to Punki Thangna which means “rest place” in Sherpa language and where we you will have lunch.


Passing through a forest of Rhododendron, Pine and Birch you might be lucky to see a Himalayan Pheasant, typical bird of the area. You will then climb up a steep path to reach Tengboche hill. From there, you will have a clear view of the mountains including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khantega, Tabuche, Kwonde.

After checking in your guest house, you will visit Tengboche Monastery where you will witness a praying ceremony performed by monks in the afternoon. Tengboche Monastery is one the biggest active monasteries in the Khumbu region. Getting blessed here is a rite a passage for anyone on their way to Everest Base Camp or on an Everest Expedition.

D7Trek to Dingboche

After breakfast, you will head on a downhill trail through a deep rhododendron forest to Debuche and continue along the Imja valley passing Pangboche village (3900m), from where you can see a very close view of Mount Ama Dablam. The trail then goes gradually uphill to the next place: Somare (4040m) where you will have lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, you will cross the tree line and walk in alpine meadow along Imja river all the way to Dingboche. Known as “summer valley”, Dingboche is the highest elevation settlement village. There the families grow potatoes, cabbage, spinach and barley.

D8Acclimatisation Day at Dingboche

After ascending 1000m from Namche bazaar, you will spend another acclimatisation day in Dingboche to adjust to the thin air and surrounding temperature. You will take a hike to Nagarjun (5050m) and come back to sleep in Dingboche.

The hiking to Nagarjun hill offers a gorgeous view of the magnificent peak Mount Makalu (8463m) – fifth highest in the world. After lunch you will have some free time in Dingboche.

D9Trek to Lobuche


Leaving Dingboche, the trail leads ascends gradually to Pheriche village and then Thukla (4620m) which is nice spot for having a cup of tea and rest before climbing for 1 hour to reach Thukla top which is also known as “memorial top”.

Along the way, you will see many memorial chortens and stupas for the people who lost their life whilst climbing Mount Everest during different decades. One of the famous Chorten belongs to the late Babu Chheri Sherpa who is one of the greatest climbers of his era. He holds a few records in Everest Expedition: spending 21 hours on the top of Mount Everest without Oxygen and being the only one who climbed Mount Everest twice in the same season.

Thereafter, take a one hour fairly easy walk in the valley towards to Lobuche, a very small place with only 7 to 8 tea houses.

D10Trek to Everest Base Camp and back to Gorekshep

Today, you will leave Lobuche early morning after breakfast. The trail is quite flat for one hour. Then the landscape begins to change significantly after we reach at the Lobuche Pass top. On the right side, Khumbu glacier and the beautiful views of white mountains will be encourage everyone to continue to walk slowly and steady towards Gorak Shep while suffering from the lack of oxygen at that elevation. When you arrive at Gorak Shep – a small place with few guest houses – you will drop your bags in the room, eat a light lunch, grab some snacks and drinking water before continuing trekking towards Everest Base Camp.

After 3 hours walking along the rocky and sandy trail from Gorak Shep, we will reach the Everest Base Camp. There, you will have the opportunity to celebrate your tremendous achievement and take photos in front of the famous sign “Everest Base Camp 5364m” where hundreds of prayer flags have been set. Ironically, we cannot see Mount Everest from the Everest base camp though the breath-taking views of Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Ice-Fall, Mount Pumori, Mount Lingtren, Mount Khumbutse, Mount Changtse, Lho La, and Mount Nuptse will not let you down. After this very special moment, we return back to Gorak Shep for a rest and good night sleep before another unforgettable hike to Kalapathar the following morning.

D11Hike up to Kalapattar and trek down to Pheriche

Another early morning starts with a hike to Kalapathar (5545m) for stunning 360 degree mountain views including Mount Everest and its spectacular surrounding peaks and Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Ice-fall. Kalapathar is a 2 hours steep climb followed by one hour down from/to Gorak Shep. After the stunning and breathtaking mountains views, come back to Gorak Shep for a hot breakfast and then start to go back down to Thukla via Lobuche.

After lunch and rest in Thukla, walk one hour downhill to Pheriche passing by a few farming lands, Yak grazing fields and local houses.

D12Trek to Namche Bazzar via Tengboche

Today you will head back to Namche bazaar after breakfast. After 45 minutes, you will meet the trail which you took when going up to Everest base camp and will descend the same way back.

D13Trek to Lukla

Today we will follow Dudha Koshi River and stop at Phakding village for lunch. After lunch, we will continue our trekking to reach Lukla for overnight sleep and catch a morning flight the following day.

D14Fly back to Kathmandu

Early morning, you will fly to Kathmandu from Lukla. After landing in Kathmandu airport and claim luggage, you will be transferred to your hotel. Then you have some free time in the capital city.

D15Final Departure

Today you will be transferred to Kathmandu airport in time for your flight home.

Note: The tour runs year round but March to May and September to December is the best time to do this trek mainly due to weather conditions.

Full payment is due 14 days prior to departure. Thomas Cook China reserves the right to release all services in case of payment default.


Cancellation Policy

If any cancellation is received following a booking, the following general cancellation policy will apply:

  • Between 30 and 21 days prior to arrival : 20% of total amount is due
  • Between 20 and 7 days prior to arrival : 50% of total amount is due
  • Between 6 days and 2 day prior to arrival: 75% of total amount is due
  • 1 day or No-show: 100% of total amount is due

Thomas Cook China will not be liable for performance delays or for non-performance, due to causes beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, actions by any government authority (whether valid or invalid), fires, floods, windstorms, riots, explosions, natural disasters, wars, sabotage, labor problems (including lockouts, strikes and slowdowns), or court injunction or order.
