D2Kuching - Lemanak

After breakfast, drive 225 kilometres through lush rainforest and scenic countryside dotted with small roadside towns, farmhouses, Malay, Chinese and Bidayuh villages, pepper orchards, rubber and oil palm plantations. On your way, stop at Serian for a short tour of the town. Continue your journey to Lachau or another roadside town for lunch until you reach the Lemanak River where you will hop on-board a motorised longboat for a thrilling ride, travelling upstream against the flow of the water.

Arrive at Serubah or Nanga Kesit longhouse and experience for yourself a way of life that goes back many centuries. Take a dip or swim in the cool water of the Lemanak River. In the evening, enjoy a local dinner accompanied by tuak (rice wine) and entertainment by the longhouse residents: traditional dances to the music of gongs. D3Lemanak – Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre - Kuching

Make your way back to Kuching with lunch served en-route at a local cafe. Upon arrival in Kuching, go to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to watch the feeding of the orang-utans. This is the best place in Sarawak to see semi-wild orang-utans, who have been rescued from captivity and trained to survive in the surrounding forest reserve. The rehabilitated animals roam freely in the rain forest, and often return to the centre at feeding time. The centre is 30 mins drive from Kuching and another 20 mins on foot. Along the way you will pass by the ethno-botanical gardens, with their unique collection of rainforest plants.

Bako’s most famous residents are proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs (leaf monkeys), long-tailed macaque monkeys, wild boars, flying squirrels, monitor lizards as well as hundreds of different bird species. Fascinating plant life includes mangroves, strangling figs, carnivorous pitcher plants and symbiotic ant plants.
