D1Jayapura - Wamena

Upon arrival at Sentani airport of Jayapura, hop on a connecting flight to Wamena which takes about 45 minutes in a small aircraft. 

Once in Wamena, enjoy an afternoon visiting Jibama traditional market, Dani villages and a traditional hanging bridge

D2Wamena - Sogokmo - Kurima - Kilise

After breakfast, drive for about 40 minutes to Sogokmo accompanied by your cook and local porters. This will be the starting point of the trekking. 

Head to Kurima, sub-district of the local tribes. Then continue climbing the Hesegem hill in the direction of Kilise. Along the trails, you will watch local people carry out their daily activities and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. Lunch will be served en route.

D3Kilise - Ibiroma - Wamena

After breakfast, observe the Dani dance and Mock battle. These take place between neighbouring tribes namely the Lani and the Yali. They are a way of celebrating the fertility and welfare of Papua. During this event, the men can be seen wearing distinctive tribal attire, including face paint, feathers, animal bones and intricate penis sheaths named Koteka. The women wear skirts made from woven orchid fibres decorated with straw and woven bags, worn from the head, named 'noken'. 

After lunch, proceed to descend the steep hill to Wanem village via Ibiroma. Along the way, you will see and meet local people who are working in their sweet potatoes gardens. From the hills of Wanem, you will get spectacular views of Baliem George

Upon arrival at Sogokmo, drive for about 40 minutes to Wamena.

D4Wamena - Jayapura

Today, fly back to Jayapura.

Upon arrival in Jayapura, enjoy a city tour which includes the Mc. Arthur war memorial and a 1 hour leisurely boat trip on Lake Sentani to see the lifestyle of those based on the lake shore. You will then have a chance to hunt local souvenirs at Hamadi Market.

D5Jayapura - Departure

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

All foreigners touring Irian Jaya (local name for the island) must be in possession of travel permit. Requirements for arranging a permit are passport copies (ID page) and 2 copies of a recent portrait photograph (4x6 cm). Documents would need to be received at least three weeks prior to departure. This service is included in the price for this tour.

Cancellation Policy

If any cancellation is received following a booking, the following general cancellation policy will apply:

Between 30 and 21 days prior to arrival : 20% of total amount is due

Between 20 and 7 days prior to arrival : 50% of total amount is due 

Between 6 days and 2 day prior to arrival: 75% of total amount is due 

1 day or No-show: 100% of total amount is due

Thomas Cook China will not be liable for performance delays or for non-performance, due to causes beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, actions by any government authority (whether valid or invalid), fires, floods, windstorms, riots, explosions, natural disasters, wars, sabotage, labour problems (including lockouts, strikes and slowdowns), or court injunction or order.
