In the morning, visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Great Mosque.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built 707–709, during the Tang dynasty. It stood at 45m until the 1556 Shaanxi earthquake which took it down to 43m. Other landmark of the city, the Great Mosque is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China. According to historical records engraved on a stone tablet inside, it was built in 742 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). This was a result of Islam being introduced into Northwest China by Arab merchants and travellers from Persia and Afghanistan who settled down in China at the middle of the 7th century. The Great Mosque is striking for its particular mix of traditional Muslim and Chinese architecture styles.
